Davenham

Saturday 14 February 5 miles
Hilary, Jane and Donna

We started off by the church in Davenham. There was a bit of a cold wind.

We walked along the road a little, until we reached the gate where we could walk along the hedge in the field rather than being on the road.
It was muddy in places, it made our boots a bit heavy. We got some exercise.
One field was covered in water so we had to walk around it, as there was marsh grass growing there the field must be pretty soggy most of the time.

We passed some houses at the back of Gadbrook Park and then joined the canal.

We warmed up as we walked along the canal.
Then we sat in a little sunshine and had our lunch at 11.20am! As it was the only sunshine we saw we chose the right time.
As we came off the canal we had a look at Whatcroft Hall the home of John Bishop. Then we went towards Riverside organic and back to Davenham

A lovely walk and so close to home!

Tea and cake in Middlewich at St. Mary's church hall, where there was  a day of arts, crafts, cake and music. We had a cup of tea and a cake for £1!

Aston-juxta-Mondrum walk + planning

Sunday 18 January
Carol, Hilary, Tracey, Jane, Donna

Cold and frosty morning with snow on the ground. It was also foggy.

Crossing the first field the grass very pretty as it was sprinkled with snow. The ground was wet from the rain this week but was covered with a layer of ice but we could here the ice crack as we walked on it.

church bells ringing

Foggy lanes, wooded path with the trees coming very low and close.

Ploughed fields

Train line with trains

lunch sitting in the church yard (St Oswald's Worleston) a very pretty church
We carried a bench from the back of the church to the front (as suggested by the gentleman just leaving the church) so that we could all sit comfortably. We were lucky that the sun came out, but it was still very cold.

Walked along the canal in the rain - so we got wet.

Donna and Hilary still need new boots.

Back to Carol's for tea and cake, the planning meeting and then tea and cake again!

Rambling around the Runway

Saturday 6 December 7 miles
Jane + John

A cold sunny winter's day, there was ice on the ground and the car.

The writer of the walk suggested that the walk would be muddy in winter, it was quite muddy in places but the cold ground was still quite frozen as well, so we managed ok. The ice on the grass and weeds as we walked through the fields

Some of the fields were waterlogged, we were able to walk from tuft of grass to tuft of grass but still on occasion our feet ended up in the water. in the holes created by animal feet.

We walked down a grassy track and the brown leaves on the ground were edged in ice so looked very pretty.

We walked in the woods by the River Bollin. Then we came to the tunnel under the runway.
The tunnel was created to carry Runway Two across the River Bollin and is  240m long, 18m high and 24m wide, it is also an impressive piece of engineering.

We walked all around the end of Runway Two. We watched the aeroplanes taking off over our heads. We could have been plane watching except that we didn't know the tail colours except for Virgin Airlines!

Finding somewhere to sit for lunch was difficult, in the end we sat on some gravel by the side of a little lane (a passing place really).

Lindow Common Circular

Saturday 11 October 6.5 miles
Jane, Tracey and Hilary

The day started bright and sunny, with a pleasant drive through the countryside to Lindow Common. there is plenty of parking.

The grass was very wet.

Rossmere is a man-made lake and it looked beautiful in the sunlight I was busy looking at the map and stood in a cowpat!

The golf course did not seem to be in use, and not clear which way we should go.
There was still dew on the green, on on of them you could see bird and animal tracts.
We saw a kestrel flying above the trees and then it settled on it

As the grass was still very wet it was hard to find a place to stop to have lunch, in the end we sat by a gate into a farmer's field on a bit of tarmac.

We stopped at the alpaca farm and talked to the lady who spent her time spinning.

Tea and cake/scone at the Cheshire Smokehouse
Saw a buzzard as we got out of the car
