Mow Cop and the Macclesfield Canal

Saturday 28 July 5 miles
Donna, Jane, Hilary

Decisions, decisions will the weather be hot or cold  - and so what to put on? It turned out to be a bit cooler than the previous few days.

We started on the edge of Scholar Green and walked up to Mow Cop. We went up roads, through fields, under a bridge, through woods and up onto the higher ground where there was a fabulous view across the Cheshire Plain. We could see Jodrell Bank, the Salt Factory in Middlewich, Frodsham Hill, Beeston and the Peckforton Hills with the Welsh hills in the distance.

The breeze was quite cool but we managed to find a sheltered spot to have our lunch by the folly, the sun kept us warm and we had the view over Biddulph and into the Peak District.

On the way down we passed some very nice properties with great views. We stopped and spoke to a lady who had not long moved into a house on the hill. She was having problems with rain water coming into the house so she was trying to keep a channel free along the roadside side to take the water away, but some kids had pushed the stones back into the channel.

The path was a little muddy in places on the way down and the nettles have grown well this year.

Rode Hall wasn't open and at Little Moreton Hall we would have had to pay to get in, so we went to the Astbury Garden Centre. The cafe has been extended since we were last there, the afternoon special (scone) had loads of cream with strawberries and jam. Yummy!

Delamere Forest

Saturday 7 July
Jane and Helen

We parked on the roadside as the carpark was full, we walked back along the road and along the path. Under the trees it was cooler than I was expecting so we put our jackets on. It wasn't particularly wet under foot considering the rain we have had this week.

The streams we past were running quickly with plenty of water.
It is always lovely to walk in the dappled shade of the trees.

Due to the rain and the warmth there plenty of weed growth so we had to watch for nettles and thistles along some stretches of the path.

When the sun came out it was really warm.

Llangollen (mini break!)

Saturday 9 June

Llantysilio Mountains 8 miles
Hilary, Tracey, Jane, Donna

There was rain most of the week so we didn't know what to expect on the Saturday. The forecast was for a better day, so we hoped for the best.
We started near the Horseshoe Pass opposite the Ponderosa Cafe.
It wasn't always easy to follow the directions, but we did ok.
We went on some OMG paths - i.e. there was a drop down the mountain. There were a few puddles left by the rain but we didn't get too wet.
The views were excellent, even though the cloud was a little low the clarity and colour was beautiful. It was very windy on the top of the mountain. Summit trig point on Moel Morfydd (549 m).

The Ponderosa cafe - we did not rate it for tea and homemade cakes, somehow tea and coffee machines and cake wrapped in cling film did not appeal!!

We stayed overnight in Llangollen at Gales. We enjoyed our meal of Welsh Black rib eye and chips.

Sunday 10 June
We visited Plas Newydd the house of the old ladies.
The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct - also walked across. Free parking!!
