Llangollen (mini break!)

Saturday 9 June

Llantysilio Mountains 8 miles
Hilary, Tracey, Jane, Donna

There was rain most of the week so we didn't know what to expect on the Saturday. The forecast was for a better day, so we hoped for the best.
We started near the Horseshoe Pass opposite the Ponderosa Cafe.
It wasn't always easy to follow the directions, but we did ok.
We went on some OMG paths - i.e. there was a drop down the mountain. There were a few puddles left by the rain but we didn't get too wet.
The views were excellent, even though the cloud was a little low the clarity and colour was beautiful. It was very windy on the top of the mountain. Summit trig point on Moel Morfydd (549 m).

The Ponderosa cafe - we did not rate it for tea and homemade cakes, somehow tea and coffee machines and cake wrapped in cling film did not appeal!!

We stayed overnight in Llangollen at Gales. We enjoyed our meal of Welsh Black rib eye and chips.

Sunday 10 June
We visited Plas Newydd the house of the old ladies.
The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct - also walked across. Free parking!!

  1. Remember seeing those chaps flying radio controlled gliders from the side of Moel Morfydd and Hilary being the chatty type went and had a word with them.

Well guess what - the same chaps were there today and no surpise, they remembered the occasion! It's true; following up on Hilary's chat with the gentlemen on the mountain side, I decided to take a few of my gliders up there and they made me very welcome indeed.

I could form a spin off - "Bootriders Gliders".
