Hockenhull Platts

Saturday 12 September 5 miles

Jane,Tracey, Donna + Hilary

Lovely weather, blue sky, a few white clouds, a cool breeze in places

We parked in Tarvin.

The bridges don't seem very big to us now so it is hard to believe that this was once a major trading route through Cheshire.

Difficult to find our way across the fields - we found a pretend bridge across a ditch

Wet Grass

At Stamford Mill we stopped and looked at the mill race. The man who lived in the house told us we couldn't get out onto the road due to the roadworks, so we crossed the fields to come out onto the A51 no too far from where we needed to be. We crossed the road with the help of a police car!

As it was lunch time we ended up sitting on the side of the road in the sunshine.

We went and had a look at Wildshore and watched the wave boarding. The water looked a bit choppy with the cool breeze blowing across it.

Then we went to the Hollies for coffee/tea and Portuguese custard tarts (x3). We were able to sit at a sheltered table in the sunshine, getting our quota of vitamin D.

Meeting in person!

Saturday 11 July

A walk around Carol's garden and a chat.

The forecast was that it wouldn't rain - and it didn't! When the cloud came over and there was a breeze it was cool so we got our coats on to walk around the garden. We said hello to the chickens and looked at the coop. Then we followed the path around the pond disturbing the geese to get passed.

We brought our own lunches so we went to get them and sat at the bottom of the garden. Carol lit the fire pit so of course the sun came out bright and hot. After lunch there were marshmallows to roast over the fire.

It was lovely to meet up and have a chat.

Brereton Country Park to the Swettenham Arms

Saturday 15 February 3 miles

Carol, Hilary, Tracey, Jane and Donna

The forecast was for bad weather, with a lot of rain so it was decided to keep the walk short and add a lunchtime stop. An excellent idea!

We parked at Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve, then turned right out of the car park along Davenport Park Lane. We crossed the A54, then followed the paths over the River Dane to the Swettenham Arms. The paths were covered in water in places and we did get a little bit wet.

Lunch was really nice. Three of us had the prosciutto cranberry and brie croissant, then there was a Mediterranean mezze and an egg mayonnaise sandwich.

We we returned the way we had come. The walk back to the car wasn't too wet either.

Middlewich walk and planning

Saturday 4 January 3.8 miles

Hilary, Donna, Tracey, Jane and Carol

Sunny weather!

We met at the Big Lock.

From the Big Lock we walked clockwise along the canals. First we were on the Trent and Mersey canal and then joined the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union canal. We came off and walked along Coalpit Lane. At the A54 we walked to the Stanthorne Bridge and crossed the road to join the path beside the River Wheelock, the path continues around until The Wheelock joins the River Dane. We came back to the canal by the bridge over the river. We followed the path back to the Big Lock. The pub did not open until 12 o'clock so we sat in the sunshine on the seats outside, we did get a bit cold.

Once the pub opened we had lunch at the Big Lock - two B.L.T. toasted sandwiches and three nachos and chilli beef.

Then we did our planning meeting.
